Stacy Forgot to Mention….

February 20th, 2013

Stacy London of the fashion show “What Not To Wear”  showed off  2013 trends.  What she forgot to mention is trends that are in are not for everyone.  Beware!  Always consider your height, shape and age for the trends or any clothing styles for that matter.   One of the best examples is the gladiator shoe.  Personally, I feel they look good on very few women.  If you absolutely love them, try them on, look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are drawing attention to your feet and/or legs.   Do they make your calves look heavy?  Do they make you look shorter?   Do they make you look masculine? Always ask yourself if you’re wearing the trend or the trend is wearing you.

Baby Steps

September 5th, 2012

“I REALLY want to wear a skirt but I’m so used to wearing pants…how do I wear a skirt and feel confident?”  During my company presentations and private consultations I hear thoughts from men and women who want to “get out of their rut” when I ask:  if you could wear something different than what you are currently wearing what would it be?

How do you do it?  My response BABY STEPS and HOW do you as an adult take baby steps?

1.  Buy a shirt or skirt or something you would like to try but haven’t been able to wear (Keep the price tag attached until step #3)

2.  Wear it around the house, look in the mirror, try with your different clothes or maybe you have to buy an extra piece of wardrobe to wear with and ask yourself how do I look? (i.e. funky, old, too immature, sassy, etc).

3.  When you pass baby step 2 remove the price tag and wear it among a small group of family or friends or out to dinner with your partner.  See if they make any comments and take them with a grain of salt.  Good comments take in honestly and Bad take to a certain extent and possibly in one ear and out the other.

4.  If you feel almost confident after baby step #3, wear it out for a public occasion.

I suggested to the woman that wanted to wear a skirt to start by wearing black shoes, black tights and black skirt because it will give the illusion of pants.  Once she gained confidence in wearing this style she can remove her tights and show her legs  (by the way she had nice looking legs).  I spoke with her recently, she did it and she is now off and running!

Hair Tricks that Make You Look 7 Years Younger

June 13th, 2012

I love gray hair on men and women at any age, but only if it’s the correct coloring with your skin tone and it’s worn stylish.  Even short hair can make you look older than you really should look or may make you look dated.  A haircut defines who you are.  Are you stylish? Sassy? Conservative?  Certain colors of hair may make one look washed out or too  old (ex. black hair can make a person look older, mousy brown colored hair can make you look tired).

I found this article about hair tricks to make you look younger.  Check it out:   7 Hair Tricks To Make You Look Younger

Guys’n Jeans

September 21st, 2011

I know when shopping with guys they’ve gotten stuck on wearing light denim and can’t bring themselves to try dark jeans.  Keep in mind change is good and dark jeans make you look thinner and fashionable.  You can pair them with a great blazer for an awesome look.

Men: What’s in & how to wear it.

April 20th, 2011

1.  The Suit.  Casual rather than plaid patterns are hot.  A suit or sports jacket always requires alterations.  Wear it with a chambray or polo shirt.  A canvas belt can work as can sneakers and a crewneck knit.   Please do not wear French cuffs and a silk tie.

2.  Boat Shoes Wear with khakis, jeans or even a cotton suit.  Don’t add anything overly nautical on top so you’re doing a “theme” thing, which is unoriginal.

3.  Boot Cut-Jeans New styles have a slightly larger leg opening than straight-leg jeans but don’t seem dated.  18” leg openings are a great look.  Wear with boots,  sneakers, or leather lace-ups.

4.  Denim Shirt The denim shirt was the original “blue collar” shirt, but no longer.  Faded or slightly distressed fabric is a rugged look.  Darker & neater versions can be dressed up.  The structured fabric can conceal a few extra pounds or bulk up a thin frame.  Wear with dress pants to jeans (as long as they’re a few shades apart.  Add a nice necktie.
