My Favorite Things

February 1st, 2017

I want to share some items I love that make it easier for me to get ready and look my best.

  1. Osis+ by Schwarzkopf, which creates lots of volume throughout the day. It’s a sprinkle-in dust that gives a boost to your hair.   A little goes a long way. Through the day you can give your hair oomph by mussing up your roots with your fingers.
  1. Sally Hansen Airbrush self-tanner. I’m outside a lot either exercising or doing errands. I don’t suntan on my own but my upper body tans just from being outside and my legs stay white. This inexpensive self-tanner comes in different colors and doesn’t turn orange. I don’t have to wear panty hose and my legs look even colored compared with my upper body. No streaks. This lightweight leg makeup covers veins and imperfections, plus its water and transfer resistant.
  1. Make-up blender sponge. Professionals use it to contour and highlight your makeup without leaving stripes. It also does a great job of blending concealer. The first time I applied makeup with the sponge my daughter saw me   and asked what I’d done differently with my makeup, as it appeared more even. My daughters got eagle eyes! So when I got a compliment from my daughter I KNEW it worked.
  1. This is great for a quick trip out the door with minimal makeup and an instant facelift. Use a fan brush to apply the bronzer.
  2. Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick. It evens out your skin tone and gives your skin a natural look. I love how it moisturizes and softens wrinkles too. Plus it saves room in your suitcase if you’re a traveller!

2015 Color of the Year

February 11th, 2015

Pantone the company used in printing and manufacturing is known for its color complimenting technique chooses a top color each year to be used in fashion, beauty or home décor. This year the color is MARSALA   like the Italian red wine.  What color is Marsala you ask?  It’s a deep red-brown hue.  You can add a dash of color wherever you feel appropriate; rather than dressing head-to-toe on your hair, lipstick, blush and eye color.  Then you would STICK OUT in a crowd.  A dash makes more of a statement that can go a long way.

Guys you can add a necktie or pocket scarf with Marsala or if you’re feeling really confident go with a Marsala shirt and/or socks in this color.    “Less is more” which too is my motto.

If you’re not into this color on your body add a pillow or towel with this color in your home. Let the color speak to you rather than let anyone tell you that is what you have to wear.  You don’t have to like it or wear it because people tell you it’s in this season, wear it because you feel good in this color.

Mascara I Love…For now

June 4th, 2014

I’m forever searching for THE perfect mascara to give me length. Department store employees at makeup counters tell you what works for them yet I when I see their lashes they are not by any means long. Some places will tell you to buy it and try it and if it doesn’t work return it. So that’s what I do. I’ve tried inexpensive to expensive mascaras and the one I’ve discovered for the time being (until there is something better) is Two Faced Cosmetics BETTER THAN FALSE LASHES mascara which are nylon extensions (applied by a mascara wand). The application takes a few minutes longer yet I totally see a difference in my lashes. I’m not a paid spokesman nor have I received any free product. The 3-step process is as follows: Step 1: Prime the lashes from lash base to tip. Step 2: Build the lashes with Flexi-stretch Nylon Fibers (white fibers) Step 3: Seal the lashes and bond the layers together with the base formula (which covers the white fibers). I repeat steps 2 and 3 to have longer lashes. I truly see a difference compared to many I’ve tried. It lengthens and stays lengthened. Let me know what works for you.

Overdone Glamour vs. Undone Glamour

September 4th, 2013

In keeping up with the fashion for the season for all sexes including makeup, hair, and glasses I came upon the look of the lips.  Will I try it?  Absolutely but I’ll try before leaving my home or knowing will be seated in a dark restaurant.  Would I recommend to my women clients?  I would suggest the same, try it at home first.  Lip trends are fun because they are minute changes, while others are significant such as dyeing your hair from black to platinum blonde.  The new 2013 fall lip trends:

1.   Matte Lips….How?   Apply lip color, place a tissue over the lips, and take a brush dipped into translucent powder and run over the lips.  Voila!

2.  Undone Lips….How?   Apply one or more of your berry shades of lipstick with your finger onto the center of your lips then buff the lipstick to the corners with a moist towelette.

Little Changes Women Can Make

June 19th, 2013

Changing up your style through fashion and beauty from season-to-season can be challenging.  Women can make a few mistakes that make them  appear older  than they really are or want to.  Below are some ways that can make a woman look older and the answer to create a more youthful look.

Dark lipstick makes lips appear smaller.  A brighter color and/or a hint of gloss will make lips seem fuller and and give a more youthful look.

Overly sleek hairstyles can make the face look drawn and emphasize every pore, wrinkle, and imperfection. A textured, looser option or a loosely pulled-back style can take at least five years off your face and de-emphasize those imperfections.  Keep in mind that helmet-headed styles can be aging.  Steer clear of overly voluminous bouffants.

Over-concealing dark circles to hide bags and under eye circles is beyond noticeable.  Use a light concealer, applied with a brush only to the dark spots–not the entire under eye.

Cakey foundation – Heavy foundation emphasizes wrinkles.  Choose a tinted moisturizer instead. Once applied, dab a damp sponge to noticeably wrinkled areas where foundation has settled. It will remove any excess foundation!  BB or CC Cream can help hide facial discolorations (I wouldn’t be without it), plus it has a sunscreen.  Prices vary  from $7.00 on up.

Lower lash mascara brings attention to crows feet and makes eyes appear smaller and tired. Instead curl the top lashes and apply the blackest mascara you can find–it will bring out the whites of the eyes and make them look bigger.

Short necklaces bring attention to your neck–an area that begins to show aging early on. Wear a long necklace which elongates your neck and your figure for an all-around slimming effect.

“Hairs” To You!

October 3rd, 2012

Ever wonder why your makeup may not look great or you look too pale or too old?  Consider your hair color and what brings out your eyes and best skin tone.   Dark hair may cover your gray, but can make you look years older while you think blond makes you look younger it can make you look pale and sick.  It takes a knowledgeable hair color analyst to know it’s more than just a color you want, but rather what can work with your skin tone and features to make you glow.  This is when you need to call in a makeup professional who puts the best foundation, blush and eye color on your face.

Eyelashes Right Before Your Very Eyes

April 18th, 2012

I have short eyelashes so I’m always looking for the latest and greatest way to get long luxurious lashes. Long and luxurious was not what awaited me, but it was closer to the zillions of mascaras I’d tried before. The first mascara I tried is ‘They’re Real!’ by Benefit Cosmetics. They’re designed to lengthen, separate, and dramatically curl your lashes. They truly did lengthen and separate and I did get some curl. I had to apply more than one coat. I’d give it kudos since I really noticed a true difference. I purchased my mascara at Sephora for $22 and if you don’t have a Sephora near by, you can purchase it on line at

Another one I’ve heard about, but not tried is called ‘Better Than False Lashes’ by Too Faced Cosmetics. They use unique flexistretch nylon fibers; the coats melt and seal together, building out lashes that are long, glossy, and sleek. You can purchase this at Sephora or for $35.

Since I always want to be ready and out the door in 20 minutes to enjoy life I want to try “Cry Baby” mascara. However it has to be applied at a salon by a professional. It’s a semi-permanent lash-coating process and can last up to two weeks with volume, curl and color as opposed to traditional tints. It’s for women who don’t want to take the time to apply mascara daily or have trouble wearing mascara with contact lens. It’s cost is $25 & up. Check out the website for salon locations.

I’m going to try all 3, but I’ll take it “one lash at a time.” Let me know what you think.

Have you changed and your style has remained the same?

I had some fabulous ladies take part at the 3 hour Informal Class I taught at University of Texas on September 7.  I addressed selecting fashionable clothing styles that enhanced their specific body type and educated them on shopping their own closet by use of accessories. The women brought an item (i.e., blouse or scarf) from their wardrobe that they have trouble wearing, and I gave them advice on how to wear it.

Color Analyst and Makeup Artist, Natalie Gauci demonstrated how to choose colors best suited for their skin tone, plus: 3 Steps to Flawless Skin and Makeup in Minutes.

Stay tuned….We’ll be teaching another class in November!

Guest Blogger Natalie Gauci “5 Hottest Make-up Trends for Spring”

April 6th, 2011

Don’t leave your look behind; your makeup should change with the seasons too!

1. CHEEKS are back! Bold Vibrant flushed – Coral or Pink depending on your skin tone – Apply to the apple of your cheek while smiling! Blend with a powder brush.

2. “ELECTRIC” EYES! Yes they’re back! Don’t be afraid if this is too extreme for your personality. Just a “dab” of a bright turquoise or purple on the lid of your eye will create a “pop” and change for your spring look.

3. BRONZER. Add a “sun kissed” look to your entire face with a bronzing powder. Bronzing powders are great as we go into summer . . . A little goes a long way! A fan brush is used to apply.

4. VIOLET IS HOT! – Yes, purple eye shadow.

5. SEXY SMOKEY EYE. – For a night out create drama with sexy metallic grays and navy. Pair with a neutral lip so your eyes are the focus!
