2011 Fashion Trends for Women

December 28th, 2010

Style Magazine Contributor Katrina Szish offered predictions for the looks that will be trendy in 2011.

Honeysuckle: Named the “it” color of 2011 by the color gurus at Pantone.  It was chosen because “In times of stress, people need something that will lift their spirits.” Honeysuckle is a very energizing, dynamic and engaging color that can’t help but get the adrenaline going. A good color to ward off the “blues”!

Color: Fruity lips and bright eyes. In keeping with the jolt of color we see with the honeysuckle trend, makeup is following suit with mega-brights for eyes — purple, yellow, turquoise, orange — the sky’s the limit. The red lip of fall and winter has softened for spring, but still is a long way from nude. Fruity, juicy shades are fresh, fun and optimistic and look great on all complexions

Statement sunglasses: Oversized sunglasses with colored frames and uniquely-shaped frames — the funkier the better.

Handbags: The ladylike look for handbags reminiscent of that “Mad Men” — retro chic with a modern twist.

Shoes: Platform heels, architectural shapes and fun color.

Skirts: Lots of longer lengths, and not just on evening gowns. Everything, from just-below-the-knee to mid-calf to floor-length.

Seventies-inspired: High-waisted jeans, disco-inspired halter dresses, jumpsuits — they’re all back in style. But, don’t pull out your polyester leisure suits — this is not costume-y, but rather, the silhouettes are updated to modern proportions, so the look is more elegant than egregious.

Wrap Me Up

December 22nd, 2010

When I give scarf-tying classes many women comment they have scarves in their closet but don’t know how to wear them.

This is one of many ways for adding a twist to any outfit.

All you need is a large square scarf (approximately 36”).

  1. Fold scarf in half with right sides together.
  2. Knot the 2 ends together on each side.

Shoooz for Everyone

December 8th, 2010

I’m not one for buying clothing or shoes online.  However, the exception is “Zappos” when it comes to shoes.  I love the idea of “free shipping and free returns.”  They carry shoes for every age and hard to find sizes in the latest styles plus great prices.   I’m not an Imelda Marcos when it comes to closets full of shoes. Zappos Shoes I buy quality over quantity.  I need comfort and style.  I admit I will go to a department store and find a shoe, try it on and try to find it online at for the best price.    ZapposMens Donald Pliner shoes Zappos

Women often ask me what alternative can be used other than a purse to an interview or business meeting.  Some women are just not “purse people”.  With this question, I was lucky to have met an amazing and inspirational woman Linda Wilson whose business is creating designer portfolios and accessories for women in both career and social settings. Linda, a Hurricane Katrina survivor made Austin her new home along with her 2 daughters.  Linda’s personal story is featured in Arianna Huffington’s book  “Third World America”.  If you want something for you or  a gift for someone else that says  “I’m unique and chic” check out her website:  Evente Portfolios
